Silver Falls Weekend for Photographers
April 20-22, 2012
2013
Session Descriptions
Realistic HDR and Stacked Focus
Using camera settings and software, learn how to capture the exposures necessary to achieve "near human" visual ability in a single image. Also learn how to control the exact amount of focus [depth of field] desired in your images. Various software will be discussed, explained, and demonstrated providing you opportunity to learn the "pros and cons" of each.
Beyond Auto and Camera Comfort
Modern digital cameras can take amazing images. However, often they do not create the best possible results in auto mode. Learn how to control your camera and adjust its settings to take images that combine your creative “eye" with knowledge of the exposure triangle, camera modes, and white balance options.
Photographing Water: The Photogenic Faces of Water
Water moves, reflects, refracts, and freezes. It is as photogenic as it is complex to capture. Various means are illustrated for shooting moving water, including shutter speeds to capture preferred results. Examples of reflections on water, moving and still, with settings and filters are shown. The refraction of light in water offers opportunity to add a further dimension, whether water drops or waterfalls. Illustrative images provide an array of outstanding photographs and ideas for water photography.
Abstract and Minimalist Photography: Pure Form
Abstract photography is a means of visual expression intending to engage and excite the eye, not to simply inform about 'subject matter.' These images surpass mere recognition and identification. Instead, abstracts emphasize visual design. Creating evocative abstract photographs is about seeing and light, going beyond the barrier of concentrating on 'things.' Emphasized are the visual components and structure. You needn't include 'all' of a subject to create an amazing photography. A survey of images provides a basis for discover and a license for experimentation.
Complex Lighting
Often ambient light is not enough or there are multiple sources of light, each of a different color cast. Learn the tools, tricks, and tips on how to handle these situations by employing white balance settings and flash to achieve a desired result in your imagery.
DSLR Video: Capture and Edit
Many current DSLR and point-and-shoot cameras have a video mode. Good shooting techniques combined with post-caputure editing create viable videos. In addition to video capture tips, editing workflow using popular software will be discussed and demonstrated.
